CC2538: How to use UART in CC2538?

I want to send data to host by UART.

1. What is baudrate I should confgure in UART tool?

2. Which port I could use? HAL_UART_PORT_0 or HAL_UART_PORT_1?

3. The host show some unreadable code from UART just like following? Why?

1. I suppose you use ZTOOL_P1 settings in SampleSwitch so the baudrate is 38400
2. HAL_UART_PORT_0
3. Those are output from HalLcdWriteString which you can disable by remove LCD_SUPPORTED
4&5. Because it enable MT command by default in SampleSwitch. You can disable it by remove all MT_XXX related define.

If I disable all of MT_XXX, I cannot build project now.
Error[Li005]: no definition for "MT_SysCommandProcessing"

You can add the following red lines to fix it.

#if defined( MT_SYS_FUNC )
MT_SysCommandProcessing( aProcessCmd );
#else
SystemResetSoft();
#endif

You need to comment out "debug_str( (uint8*)str );" in HalLcdWriteString() to get the code built successfully.

Hi

pls clear my doubts

i can use any Io pin for UART or only PA0 and PA1

i need two UART ports for our design

1 UART for Debug
2 UART for Host processor communication

You can use any IO Pins for UART which you can modify the following pin mapping in bsp.h

Hi Thanks

For Host processor and CC2538 communication, RTS and CTS is compulsory?

Can Both communicate without RTS and CTS ?

UART0 for Host communication- Pass data to host is only application

what to about unused pin on CC2538?

In our design 10 unused pins (GPIO)

1. RTS and CTS is not compulsory and you can just disable flow control while you initialize UART.
2. Generally it is recommended to set unused GPIO pins as input with pullups. On CC2538 this is the default state after power up for the GPIO's. You can refer to the discussion at e2e.ti.com/.../369284.aspx

1.Use port 0 and mt_uart pins on board

2. To avoid unnecessary unreadable data comment uart_open() in uart_init()

3. And check flow control if you're using CTS and RTS
