Sorry for my late response. I'm on my business travel in China now. I talked with colleague over you last question. The answer from us is yes. The LM4838 is able to output 1W into 8 Ohms load even with SE mode setting.

You could have a look to the following devices: TPA6017a2, LM4838 and LM4836. These devices are designed to work on differential output. Unfortunately, we don't have class AB audio amplifiers to work on single-ended output.

Unfortunately I think there is not an exact match.
If DC volume control is a concern, LM4838 is a little lower output power but it has DC volume control.
If DC volume control is not a concern you could take a look at TPA6211A1 or LM4991…

Another device that you could use it's the TPA0253, but It doesn't have DC Voltage Volume control.
