  • RE: WEBENCH® Tools/LP2980-ADJ: The pass element of LDO

    Gerard Copeland

Hi, 1. Note that the pass element of the LP2980-ADJ is a Vertically Integrated PNP (VIP) BJT, not a FET. BJTs offer better performance in applications that require high voltage and low noise, like telecommunications equipment. This type of pass device…

Part Number: LP2980-ADJ Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP2981 Hello Colleagues, The customer I support is asking, if it`s possible to use the LP2981 in light low (1mA and lower). My understanding is, that LDOs working fine without any load but the…

Part Number: LP2980-ADJ I would like to obtain a technical contact at TI. We currently use your LP2980 regulator in our products and have had a quality issue with a tantalum output capacitor we use on the output of the regulator, the ESR was out of specification…

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP2980-ADJ Hello, I need an Output Voltage of 5,8V (+- 70mV) out of a LP2980-ADJ. With the recommended 51.1k Resistor I don't get a good with the available resistors (I shouldn't use "new" resistor values because of…

  • On an LDO like the LP2980-ADJ, High-Z when off?

When the ON/~OFF pin is set to OFF, is the output High-Z, ground, or undefined? I'd like to control the power to an OLED screen, and I believe I can avoid a control transistor if the output is High-Z.

    Resolved
HI Jean, The Bypass pin is the output of our bandgap reference. Adding a capacitor here reduces noise. Adding a zener would likely at leakage and may actually lower the output voltage. I think something like the LP2980-ADJ would do a better job…

Hello Nick, The GND Pin was around 1V5 Looking at the LP2980 ADJ, it looks like, the internal band gap is a possible reason why the trick is not working. There is something that goes wrong when GND is something else (Sink/Source current ???…
