Hi Francis,
Exceeding the absolute maximum voltage rating will likely damage the device. Normally this would look like a short. PMP23431 has an example of how to support higher voltage buses with an external startup circuit.

In that case, why not just use UCC28730? 28730 is a PSR controller and 28740 is a SSR controller.
