Yes this is definitely possible, the customer must use the same PHY settings for TX/RX on both devices. For this purpose, they can test just the radio settings using

For initial RF evaluation, please use SmartRF Studio 7: https://www.ti.com/tool/SMARTRFTM-STUDIO to set the device to transmit a continuous (unmodulated) carrier wave.
