For NiMH linear charger, bq2002 is the only option. You can find the reference and datasheet in the links below. The bq2002 is technically the controller for LM317 to regulate the charge voltage and current.

EDIT: I think I understand the top left part of the schematic. It essentially enables the supply of Vcc to the BQ2002 only when a battery is present. Is that correct?
Part Number: BQ24400 Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2000 , BQ24401 , BQ2002 , BQ24125 , BQ24133 Dear Specialists,
My customer is considering charger for NiMH 6cells.
I found the thread, BQ2000 and BQ24401 were introduced.
On the other hand…
bq24401 was released long time ago. Iq parameter may not be available. What type Iq (input or output at what condition) and value are this application trying to meet? I would think linear charger, bq2002, could have a lower quiescent from the input source…
Part Number: BQ25700A Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2002 , BQ25700 , Can the BQ25700 serve to charge 3 x NiMH batteries directly with a USB source? The datasheet doesn't clearly state how much input voltage is needed at the "adapter" for a 2,3,4…
Hello
I am working on setting the bq2002 up in the lab in a single cell configuration to evaluate some of this. What is your charging current?
Have not used the TPS7A8101 in this configuration.
