Hi Lauren,
Theoretically, as the battery voltage approaches the adapter voltage, the duty cycle approaches 100%. However, two things get in the way of this. Firstly, the conductive loss creates a voltage drop, so that whatever is your conductive loss…

Hello Gabe,
the bq4050 supports JEITA, so if the charger supports gas gauge broadcasts then it can be used without an MCU. The following chargers could work with your system:
BQ24725A (traditional topology)
BQ24770 (NVDC topology)
BQ24800…
You may take a look at BQ24800. It has a direct path to the system, which allowing you to power the system directly from the adapter. The buck converter charges 1S battery at the same time.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for your reply.
Furthermore, TI have many charger solution like BQ25700A, BQ25703A, BQ25708, BQ25710, BQ257018, BQ25713, BQ24780S, BQ25790 and BQ24800. It is mentioned in the datasheet of BQ25790 that remove battery is not supported…
Hi, Lumina,
In BQ24715, OCP is cycle-by-cycle protected, not a latched off event, but converter is latch-off when SYSOVP is detected.
If you need hybrid boost function, I will suggest you BQ24800--SMBus 1-4 cell Buck battery charge controller to support…
No, it is not suggested to remove Q3/Q4/BATFET for buck only applications. BQ25720 makes full use of all 5 switches during startup and light load conditions. On the other hand, we have BQ24800--a buck charge controller.
Hi CSC,
Good to hear it is charging. It would be a layout problem. Please see the following for the schematic and layout checklist. https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management-group/power-management/f/power-management-forum/1064617/faq-bq24780s-faq…
Hi Anoop,
Thank you for capturing the waveforms. I will look into this further and get back to you with feedback by Thursday.
In the meantime, please see the layout guideline to ensure proper layout on the new version:

Hi,
It is possible to use BQ24780S (or the newer BQ24800) in a USB PD system, but since it only does buck charging, you would only be able to use adapters of 15V or 20V (or a nonstandard voltage over 15V) since you have a 3S battery. Also, since the…
