I doubt that this is a stability issue, but let me say that switcherpro can sometimes give marginal results with certain input parameters. In this case it has chosen only 10 uF output capacitance, which is less than I usually recommend. To further troubleshoot…

I would not add anything from Vin to COMP. Your best bet is appropriat input filtering.

Yes there is quite a bit of variation on the start up enable. I don't think switchrpro addresses this at all. You would need to use the datasheet equations. If you need tighter control, the TPS54240 has tighter tolerance. The "consistent power up behavior…

The charge pump info is contained in SLVA444 application note. The alternate solution is to use a blocking diode as described in the encloosed ppt. 0714.TPS54160 low dropout.ppt

OK, I can beleive that. I have never tried the catch diode, but I know for a fact if you pick an output capcitor that is not sufficient, it will suggest a larger quantity to meet the rating requirement. I bet teh software uses the same checking routine…

Yes, the TPS54140 is pin to pin compatible with the TPS54040. There is one difference that will affect your circuit--the "comp to switch transconductance" is different for the 2 parts. What this means is that your control loop response will change. I…
