OPA859: NC pin

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA859

Hello,

I have questions about NC pin of OPA859. OPA859 pin2 is NC, means not connect,  datasheet explain user not connect this pin to any circuit. But nc has a little ambiguous meaning for user, is nc means opa859 internal not connect or second meaning is user not connect nc pin? Is there any internal connect or circuit in nc pin of opa859? I carelessly wired the NC pin to ground with Vs+=+5V and Vs-=ground, is this will damage opa859 or cause opa859 not work correctly?

Best Regards,

  • Hello Shenjianqing,

I checked the bond-wire of the OPA859, and the NC pin (Pin 2) on the OPA859 is not internally connected to the die. Connecting it will not change the functionality or damage the OPA859. However, in section 12.2 in the OPA859 datasheet, connecting the pin loses the advantage of reducing capacitive coupling between pin 1 and pin 3.

    Thanks,

    Sima

  • Hello SimaJalaleddine,

Thank you for your reply. I have cut off the pcb trace between NC pin and ground, every pin voltage is exactly same with  connect ground, your answer is right and useful, thank you.
