INA238: VIL Logic Input level, low consult

Part Number: INA238

Hi Team,

Customer is confused about the VIL(Logic Input level, low), which is also shown in below D/S screenshot. They found the low level of I2C is beyond 0.4V in their board, but the device is working normally. So how to understand below VIL spec here?

In my understanding, we typically refer to MIN value of VIL in other device as a safe-design. I am also confused about this part. Pls help us here. Thanks.

Best,

Stanley

  • Hello Stanley,

The VIL is with respect to the device GND, which can sometimes differ from the system GND, and can also be hard to measure based on probe resistance and inductance.  Essentially, the voltage needs to go below 0.4 V to be guaranteed to trip the logic low state, as measured from the device pins itself. My suggestion would be to try to remeasure across the device pins themselves and see if the voltage is actually going below 0.4V.
