INA250: About Parallel Connection

Part Number: INA250
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMCS1108, , TMCS1100

Hi team,

Is it possible to connect these devices in parallel to sense a current higher than 15A?
I want to use a product with a built-in resistor, but it has a current limit, so I want to know how to sense a large current.
I'd also like to know if it's possible to do the same with Hall effect devices such as TMCS1108.

Sincerely.
Ryu.

  • Hello Ryu,

Yes it is possible.  See section 8.2.2 in the datasheet.  https://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/ina250.pdf#page=21

Keep in mind that the package resistance is not controlled and could have variation from device to device.  This will cause the current to not be distributed evenly between two devices that are in parallel.

For the TMCS1108 you could do it but would need to do some post-processing to combine the currents.  If you would like to you the same method as the INA250 of combining signals you would need to use the TMCS1100 as that device has a reference input.
