TL071H: Response of OUT when Vcc drops below Vcc_min

Part Number: TL071H
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TL081H

Please let me know,

1. What is the difference between TL071H and TL081H? How to choose in applications?

2. In a single 12Vcc application, VIN+ = 3V and VIN- = 2.5V, what will happen to the output if Vcc drops below 4.5V?

Thanks.

  • Hello Wai Chung,

There is no difference between the TL071H and TL081H, the electrical characteristics table are the same, they should be able to be used interchangeably. This is not the case for the non-H versions of the part, so please note that when making selections. See this thread for more info.

The output will be unpredictable, 4.5V difference is needed for all structures to be properly biased and have all transistors in linear operating region. Depending on which structures are in saturation/cutoff the output will vary. If the Vcc drops below Vin+, you will begin to sink current through the ESD structures of the device, which can cause damage to the device.

    Best,
    Jerry
