INA229: Power Calculator Excel not calculating

Part Number: INA229

Hello to all !

Guys, I need your advice about this dumb question. Downloaded the Power Monitor Calculator from TI, was really glad, that I dont have to make it myself, but I cant make it work. No matter what I enter it never goes more than first section (where the INA229 can be selected). What do I do wrong ? Last working selection I am making is ADC RANGE = 0, but nothing changes, R shunt is not calculated. 85V in the screen shot is not correct, I has 15V there, but result is the same.

  • Hello,

I suggest to close this excel file and do not save it. Reopen it and go through your selections again. If you put zero as the min expected current the min recommended Rshunt will not be determined but with 10 A as the max expected current you should get a value for maximum Rshunt.

If closing and reopening does not work I would suggest re-downloading the tool from the INA229's product page.

If you have any other questions please reply

    Regards,

    Castrense

  • Dear Castrense,

Tried to download the file again, took this one:

    https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/sbor021

But its the same, the only thing it does - filters out the right IC from the list, all the rest of the table is not calculated. I suppose you downloaded the file and it works for you ? You write in the same values as I do ?

    New file screenshot:

  • Hello Dainius,

Yes I did download the same file and got it to work for me. Your screenshot does not show.

Here is a screenshot of the tool with your information but working:

Here is the file that the screenshot was taken of, it is filled out until step 10 where it asks to pick a shunt resistor.

    Power Monitor Calculator_ina229.xlsm

Let me know if the new file works.

  • Hello Castrense,

Thank you for effort, though even your file is not calculating, still "TBD" in cells. Could this be due to some specific setting ? I checked, the macros are enables, automatic calculation has a proper tickmark, but it still does not calculate. I tried a new file, wrote some formulas, even some macros - it works. So something must be with that Power Calculator file, but I still did not found the reason. Any ideas welcome...

P.s. I can see my screenshot of the new file, strange that you cant... Is there any uploading manual ? I did not not found hot to upload from PC, there was only one selection - give the link of the picture, so I put it on web server and included the link to file.

  • Hello,

All the settings should be correct. I see in the first screenshot you are using commas to denote numbers (5,00) try using a period (5.00). That is the only problem I see.

What version of excel are you using?

    Regards,

    Castrense

  • Have no idea what can be wrong... Tried with Excel from MS Office Professional Plus 2019 and Home and Business 2019. The comma or period is more linked to regional settings, here we use commas, instead of period (period is used to note the thousands, like 10.000,00). I only write the number, for example 15 and Excel automatically adds ,00, because the cells are formatted to Number + two digits after comma/period.

  • Hello,

I am still looking into this problem.

Expect a response from me by the end of tomorrow.

    Regards,

    Castrense

  • Thank you, Castrense,

And sorry to take up your time on this... If that would help I can share my screen with some remote desktop program (Ammyy Admin, Team Viewer, etc.). Could be easier to pinpoint what causes the issue.

    Best regards

  • Hello,

I have made a modified version of the tool just for the INA229, please try this:

    INA_229_Tool.xlsx

I will be contacting the maker of the tool to see if there is anything we missed.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

    Regards,

    Castrense

  • Its working, though you had to write it from scratch - thank you for this work, I believe it should help a lot of INAxxx users. If possible - let us all know what was the issue with original file :).
