ADC Driving amplifier recommendation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8881, THP210, ADS8910B

Dear team,

I need to use two low noise operational amplifier or one fully differential amplifier to drive the a 16bit differential input ADC with 10M sampling rate. Could you recommend some part number of both low noise operational single amplifier and fully differential amplifier? because we want to try both solution. It should be better that the part number you recommend is easy to be bought on the market and commonly used.

Best Regards

Zhihong Huang

  • Hi Zhihong,

drive a 16bit differential input ADC with 10M sampling rate.

What is require BW of Op amps? If I assumed 10X over sampling rate, you would need 1MHz BW op amps for your application?

Also, please specify 1LSB resolution and input signal voltage rails, amplitude, actual operating frequency etc..

In terms of FDA,  THP210 may work for your application. We have many low noise operational amplifiers and it will be good if you are able to provide us the design requirements.

    Best,

    Raymond

  • Well also Wesley, a full app description would be necessary - what is your source impedance? Do you need gain? Do you want to add filtering in this stage, preferred supply voltages, expected max Vpp to the ADC inputs?

  • Hi Zhihong,

Depending on the ADC type and the sample-and-hold capacitor value, you could require a high speed Fully-Differential Amplifier to drive the ADC at 10-MSPS. The THP210 (9.2MHz) is capable of driving precision SAR ADCs such as the ADS8881 (18-B) and ADS8910B (18-B) up to ~500 to 800kSPS sampling rate range.

However, this is dependent on the specific ADC architecture.  Which ADC are you driving?

    Thank you and Regards,

    Luis
