OPA564: Power stage with OPA564 as driver

Part Number: OPA564

I would like to use the OPA564 to drive

a) a 2 A power stage (DC to ~ 2 MHz, capacitive & ohmic load)

b) a +/- 30 V 1 A power stage  (DC to ~ 2 MHz, capacitive & ohmic load)

Are there any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Rudolf

  • Hi Rudolf,

    a) a 2 A power stage (DC to ~ 2 MHz, capacitive & ohmic load)

    b) a +/- 30 V 1 A power stage  (DC to ~ 2 MHz, capacitive & ohmic load)

OPA564 is rated up to1.5A, 24Vdc (or +/-12Vdc) with BW of 17MHz. I will be able to source/sink up to 1.5A, but It meet some of the load requirements above. Could you provide input and output voltage swings, gains, capacitive and resistive load in details about the requirements?

    Are there any suggestions?

Op amplifier does not like to capacitive load, and power amplifier has no exception as well. When op amp is driving capacitive load, you have to check for loop stability and make sure that it will not oscillate under any loaded conditions and/or transient events. Depending on the size of capacitive load, it can be challenging, since the op amp loop stability has to use its BW to compensate for loop stability,  and this will use up some of op amp's BW and reduce its operating frequency range.

Power amplifier's heat dissipation may be an issues as well. A design likely has to provide heat sink for proper cooling. Please let me know the temperature operating range.

I need to know more design requirements before I am able to suggest something for an application. You listed 2 loaded conditions. Are these two separate load driving circuits?
