LM311: Difference between LM311, -N and -M.

Part Number: LM311
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , LM6511, LM211

Hi team,

What is the difference between LM311, LM311-N and LM311-M?

I can't see big difference between them on the internal circuit in the DS.

I would like to use it for GND standard open-collector output.

Do you have any recommendation for this system?

Best regards,

Yuto

  • The LM311 is made by TI.
The LM311-N was originally made by National Semiconductor.

LM311D is the orderable part number of the LM311 in the SOIC package.
LM311M is the orderable part number of the LM311-N in the SOIC package.

What voltage, speed, and drive strength do you need?

  • Hi Clemens,

Thank your for providing that info for Yuto.

    Hi Yuto,

I believe that Clemens provided answers to your questions about the distinctions you mentioned. As far as a follow-up, can you share some of the design requirements that Clemens mentioned? (Speed, Supply Level, Drive strength). This will help me identify the best part for your needs.

    Kind Regards,

    Joe

  • Hi Clemens and Joe,

Thank you for the answer\and sorry for late reply.

Customer would like to use it for the alternatives of uPC311/Renesas.

I thought that the LM311 is the best device for it.

    Do you have other recommendation?

I am asking the design requirements that Clemens mentioned.

    best regards,

    Yuto

  • The uPC311 is a clone of the LM311(-N); both can be used as replacement.

Other devices might have better electrical characteristics, but not are pin-to-pin compatible.

  • Agreed.

Thanks Clemens for the continued excellent support.

I will keep the post open for a while in case you find the customer needing different performance.

  • Hello Yuto-san,

The LM211 is actually the closer replacement due to the temp range. Also the LM6511.

    Which package are they replacing?

If it is the μPC311G2 "SOP" package, the Renesas SOP-8 package is slightly wider than our "D" SOIC-8 package. Make sure the customer is aware of the difference and that their layout can accommodate the difference.
