INA226: INA226: Shunt resistor selection

Part Number: INA226

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am using INA226 in one of the project desig. If I use a shunt resistor of 0.005 Ohm, what is the min. current that I can measure? According to datasheet, 2.5uV is the step size, so the min. current that I can measure is 0.5mA?

 Current = 2.5uV/0.005 ohm

best regards,

KPK

  • Hello KPK,

    Yes, the LSB of the voltage measurement would be equal to 0.5mA step sizes. It's important to note that there will still be noise and other error sources, so using a long conversion time and averages can help achieve better accuracy.  Also, you may want to take the 0.5mA measurement step size into account when choosing a current LSB for the current register.
