INA238-Q1: Register value of address= FFh

Part Number: INA238-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA226-Q1

[QUESTION]

If we read FFh of INA238-Q1, what is stored there?

On the other hand, what is stored at 3Fh of INA226-Q1?

We will replace the device from INA226-Q1 to INA238-Q1.

And we plan to identify whether INA226-Q1 or INA238-Q1 is implemented.

The register address including device ID is below described at datasheet.

INA226-Q1 : FFh

INA238-Q1 : 3Fh

We would like to know this information to care about miss implementation.

Best regards,

  • Hello Hasegawa-san,

Thank you for using the TI forum.  The registers 0xFF for the INA238-Q1 and 0x3F for the INA226-Q1 are not defined, so we cannot reliably predict what will be there.  If you are worried about misidentifying a device, then I would recommend reading the expected device ID registers as well as the manufacturer ID registers for both locations, this way you can be confident that you know what part you have.

  • Thank you for your answer.
We have an additional question from a customer, could you please confirm this as well?

When accessing an undefined register (e.g., 0x3F of INA 238), the response is always the same as long as the same device?(Device-specific value?) Or different response will be returned each time(Random value?)

  • Hello Hasegawa-san,

Unfortunately since they are undefined I cannot guarantee that they will remain the same or change.
