INA226: Question on INA226 00h register D14-D12 - part2

Part Number: INA226
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA230,

This question comes from the related post.

I read that D14~D12 in Register 0x00 can not be written.
They will always be 0b'100 (D14 = 1; D13 = 0; D12 = 0)

What do these bits do? What is their function?

EDIT: This question is actually for INA230, not INA226...

  • Hi,

These are spare bits and don’t do anything from user's perspective.

As you know most products are rarely developed from scratch, rather they are built incrementally on the success of previous generations. This is true for digital code as well.

These bits may have been functional in the predecessor products, but were simply tied off to fixed values when the current/new IC no longer supports them.

    Regards, Guang
