INA181-Q1: system voltage pressure test

Part Number: INA181-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA181

Hi Expert,

My customer is using INA181-Q1 in their OBC project. The INA181-Q1 is put on the secondary side of OBC. You can find the system block diagram as below.

In customer's use-case, they will perform the 1500Vac voltage pressure test on chassis after board assembly. The detailed procedure describe as below.

  1. The Y-cap is placed between HV_GND and chassis
  2. Short Vhv_bat to HV_GND
  3. Add 1500Vac between Vhv_bat and chassis.

Does INA181-Q1 suitable for this use-case? Does it have any risks for INA181-Q1?

Thanks!

  • Hey Ethan,

I am looking into this and will respond shortly.

    Best,

    Peter

  • Hey Ethan,

There could be a risk, but it is hard to deduce based upon the schematic since it depends upon what the INA181's GND pin is connected to and parasitic pathways in the system. As long as the input common-mode voltage of the INA181 (Vcm with respect to INA181_GND pin) remains inside the Absolute Maximum ratings (-0.3V < Vcm < 28V), then device will not suffer damage. Engineer may just have to measure Vcm (V_IN+ to V_GND as close to pins as possible) with a high-voltage differential probe during the test.

    Sincerely,

    Peter
