TLV1701-Q1: Absolute Max Signal Input Levels

Part Number: TLV1701-Q1

I have a question regarding the TLV1701QDBVRQ1 absolute max signal input levels.

The datasheet specifies that the maximum signal input voltage is (Vs+) + 0.5, and the maximum input current is ±10mA.

Note 2 also states that the input pins are diode clamped and any signal above 0.5V the supply voltage should be current limited to less then 10mA. Screenshot of datasheet below for reference:

I have two questions:

  1. Is it SAFE to current limit the input pins below 10mA such that it does not impact reliability of the component?
    1. I am assuming that the 10mA limit is stated as the current limit for the clamping diodes are 10mA. Is this the case?
    2. If 10mA is the absolute max, should we aim for 5mA max or less?
  1. What exactly is the input diode clamping scheme? Is it the standard two clamping diodes or is there anything else for this specific part?

I’m pretty sure I’m interpreting the datasheet correctly, just hoping to get some clarification.
