INA293-Q1: driving capacitive load

Part Number: INA293-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA293

Hi,

We are using INA293-Q1 and want to add output low pass filter going into our ADC.   I am targeting 100ohm and 10nF.

Is the output stable for this condition?    How do I choose the output RC to ensure stability ?

thanks,

J

  • Jonathan,

We discuss this topic in depth in the app note located here, and then build with this information into ADC input stage design with CSAs here (the device used in this document is actually the INA293). These should provide some helpful background, but the goal is, in summary, attempting to alleviate any second order poles from forming in the combinatory response formed between the output impedance and the load impedance of the capacitor. If we look at the output impedance for the INA293:

You can see that the maximum impedance is <100Ω, so this provides confidence that an isolation resistor of 100Ω should be enough to isolate effectively any amount of capacitance from the output stage. Of course, the low pass filter formed will affect the settling response as per the cutoff frequency.

  • Thanks Carolus,    this is perfect.  thanks for showing.   I had looked in the INA293-Q1 tech docs location.   And now I notice this sboa443 app note is only in the INA293 area.   Maybe we could also put it in the INA293-Q1 tech doc location?

  • Jonathan,

I agree, this should be in the automotive folder as well. I'll check in with our digital marketing team and make sure that the location gets updated.
