INA2180: INA2180 using same SHUNT Resistor for 2 input side

Part Number: INA2180

Hi,

I want to know if it is possible to connect input pins(current measurement pins) of 2 side of INA2180 to one SHUNT Resistor and use one output for charging current measurement and other one for discharging current measurements?

In this configuration;

IN1+ and IN2- ; IN1- and IN2+ will be connected to same side of SHUNT resistor.

All the bests,

Savas

  • Hi Savas,

    It is possible to connect, as you proposed, the input pins  of 2 INA2180 to one SHUNT Resistor.

    If you don’t have to switch between charging and discharging frequently, the scheme may work well. One of the two channels will always be in output saturation mode. When current switches direction, the saturation delay could be up to tens of uS (see figures below). If this is a non-issue for your application, then it is feasible.

  • Hi Guang,

    Thank you for quick response.

    Do you have any data for saturation delay when input diff. voltage changes from +0.1V to -0.1V  for A1 devices?

    Max. Saturation delay parameter can be useful either.

    All the bests,

    Savas

  • Hi Savas,

    Unfortunately, we don’t have data for saturation delay when input diff voltage changes from +0.1V to -0.1V, nor a max spec.

    However, Fig 34 can be used to estimate the typical, while Fig 33 can be used to estimate for the other direction. Both appear to be roughly 25uS.
