INA220: INA220 circuit || VBUS

Part Number: INA220

Hi TI team,

We are using INA220BIDGST current sensor to measure the current of cellular modules. Does VBUS need external power supply for measuring the current? Will the below circuit works?

  • Hi Vidhya,

    this is no supply voltage pin powering anything inside the INA220. The VBUS pin of INA220 allows to measure the VBUS potential. Please carefully read the datasheet Relaxed

    Even if you don't need to measure the VBUS potential, it's helpful to connect the VBUS pin to IN+ or IN-. This prevents the VBUS pin from being floating.

  • Hello all,

    Kai has provided the answer. I will close this thread. Thank you Kai. To specifically answer your question yes your circuit will work but as Kai mentioned it would not hurt to connect Vbus to IN+ or IN-.
