OPA3S2859-EP: OPA3S2859-EP harmonic distortion specs

Part Number: OPA3S2859-EP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS52J65, OPA855-Q1, OPA3S2859

Dear Support team,

While reading through the OPA3S2859-EP datasheet, I did not see specs included for second and third order harmonic distortion (HD2/HD3) and was wondering if these specs listed somewhere else?

Best,

Peter

  • Hello Peter,

I will ask my team and investigate if we have record of lab work or simulations regarding HD2/HD3 for the OPA3S2859-EP device.  Typically items are thoughtfully included on datasheets; I am curious what your design requirements are for utilizing the OPA3S2859-EP?

Could you share more about your system and performance needs?

    Best,

    Alec

  • Hi Alec,

The TIA is intended as a photodiode preamp for a data acquisition front end in an OFDR application where we also use TI's 125MSPS ADS52J65 octal high-speed digitizer. Currently using an ADA4817-2 FastFET amplifier, used in a wideband transimpedance application.

What I'm looking for is being able to compare the specifications that are important for our application such as low input capacitance, low noise, low offset voltage, 3dB bandwidth and second and third harmonic distortion specs (HD2/HD3) since I have all of these available for the ADA4817-2 that I'm looking to replace by the OPA3S2859-EP device with programmable gain.

The use of the OPA3S2859 will help to utilize the full dynamic range based on our use case. I was also looking at the OPA855-Q1, just for comparison sake, and it does specifies harmonic distortion in the datasheet in handy graphs but I could not find any reference in the OPA3S2859 regarding distortion and thought this was typically specified in some form in the datasheet, whether in terms such as HD2/HD3, THD or THD+N.

    Best,

    Peter

  • Hello Peter,

Thank you for the overview! You are correct; I do not think I have seen another higher speed amplifier without distortion specified. I am currently looking into the reason since Alec is currently out of office.

    Best Regards,

  • Hello Peter,

I sent you a private message.

    Thank you,

    Sima

  • Thank you Sima,

I have received your message and this resolves my question. Will the datasheet be updated with this information at some point?

    Best,

    Peter
