INA232: Vin+, Vin- common mode voltage

Part Number: INA232

Hi,

In the max ratings of the specification, it is said that Vin+ and Vin- pins common-mode voltage shall not be negative. However , they can withstand up to +/-2KV ESD, and then negative transients.

Shall we understand that Vin+ and Vin- voltage can be negative for a short duration, as long as we don't exceed the 5mA of input current ? Or can we exceed the 5mA for a very short while ? Or shall we never go below the GND-0.3V specified by the max ratings ?

Thanks for your reply.

Best regards.

  • Hello,

The ±2KV rating is for ESD ratings only, when designing the absolute maximum ratings should be observed to prevent device to the damage.

If the 5mA current limit is observed the voltage absolute maximum ratings may be exceeded, but the Vin+ and Vin- should not go below GND - 0.3V in order to keep within the recommended operating conditions.
