LM358: AC to DC signal converter

Hello,

I am working on a basic AC 5Vpk to DC (0-5V) signal converter, where AC input both phases are converted to 0-5V output. For some reason, I cannot understand why my output is limited to about 3.5V for each peak AC input. Could someone please explain why this output is limited and not from 0V to 5V output?

Hello Peter,

LM358 does not a a rail to rail output. 3.5V is the max typical out at 5V

Hello Ron,

Thank you for the quick response. You are indeed correct. I am looking at the LM2904 now which says it is rail to rail although the datasheet notes that Input Common Mode Voltage Range is Vs -1.5v which isn't rail to rail if I understood correctly. Would you know a component that would fit my purpose?

Peter,

TLV9002 would be the low cost rail to rail on input and output at 5V supply

Ron, you are awesome. Thank you for the help. I simulated it and works great, I will use the TLV9002.
