AMC3302-Q1: The Diagnostic feature of the IC

Part Number: AMC3302-Q1

hi Team ,

The DIAG pin is actively pulled low if:

• The low-side does not receive data from the high-side (for example, because of a loss of power on the high side).

• The high-side DC/DC output voltage (DCDC_OUT) or the high-side LDO output voltage (HLDO_OUT) drop below their respective undervoltage detection thresholds (brown-out).

Diag pin helps for diagnostic of the IC , however , is there any way to to know the health of the shunt connected across?

For eg: If the shunt is open by any failure mechanism , then is there anyway to get this information with the use of this Pin or otherway ?

  • Hi Gayatri,

As you said, the DIAG pin is used to diagnose the health of the IC. If the shunt is open and the primary current continues to flow, it will do so through the input pins, likely damaging the device if the current is greater than 10mA. At which point I would expect the device to fail-open and the primary current to no longer flow.
