OPA656: OPA656UB/2K5 vs OPA656UB

Part Number: OPA656
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA814

Hello,

We received notification that OPA656U/2K5 will be discontinued, and TI’s recommended replacement part is OPA656UB/2K5. I understand as stated in the datasheet, that OPA656UB/2K5 (variants B devices) are the High-Grade Versions.

1) When checked on the website, it shows OPA656UB (small package quantity of B device) is LTB, in other words also being discontinued. Hence, are the non-B variants and the tube carrier are the only group being obsoleted? Is there any reason?

2) May I check that this B version OPA656UB/2K5 will still be active and continue to supply or will go to EOL anytime soon?

Thanks!

  • 1. Correct. Reducing the number of testing and packaging options simplifies manufacturing.

    2. There are no planned changes. See Product life cycle.

  • Hi Amira,

Clemens is correct, the non-B variants are being discontinued to increase efficiency in that segment of production. The tube will also be removed to streamline the manufacturing process and will move to tape and reel.

As for your second question, there are no current plans to EOL the OPA656B devices, however we do have a next generation drop-in replacement device in the OPA814 with upgraded functionality compared to the OPA656B. A comparison table for these two devices can be found here.

    Best Regards,

    Ignacio
