OPA827: OPA827AIDR Maximum Allowable operating junction temperature where it meets data sheet parameters

Part Number: OPA827

OPA827AIDR Maximum Allowable operating junction temperature where it meets data sheet parameters.  The help desks states that this part has low power and a allowable junction temperature of 125C.  But the current typical power dissipation is 330 mWatts in our design which is high power dissipation for 8 SOIC.  Also, can you provide a Junction to Case to the bottom of the part.

  • Hi Judy,

But the current typical power dissipation is 330 mWatts in our design which is high power dissipation for 8 SOIC.  Also, can you provide a Junction to Case to the bottom of the part.

The image below is OPA827's general current source and sink specification. The max. operating temperature is likely 125C, which it could be a typo. The datasheet specification in the part has both -40C to 85C and -40C to 125C performance guaranteed specification.

It does not mean that OPA827AIDR is unable to operate beyond 125C, but the published specification will not be applicable, and performance per the datasheet specification may deviate due to the high temperature operation.

If OPA827AIDR's heat dissipation is to be 330mW, then the SOIC-8 package will have Tj = Tamb + 0.33W*75C/W = Tamb + 25 <=150C, where the op amp is capable to operate up to 125C approximately.

    Best,

    Raymond
