LM2904-Q1: Rail to rail voltage

Part Number: LM2904-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM2904, LMV358A, TLV7012, LM393LV

When operating LM2904 opamp as a comparator, with Vcc 5V, and single supply operation, I am only getting 3.7V and 0V are my switching state, instead of expected 5V and 0V. Spice model simulation also give the same. any reason for this ?

  • The LM2904 does not have rail-to-rail outputs. The high-level output voltage must go through a current source and an NPN Darlington:

Low-voltage opamps like the LMV358A have rail-to-rail outputs, but it might be a better idea to use an actual comparator like the LM393LV or TLV7012.
