Hey,

I like to use the current sense for <60V high side bidirectional current sensing of a DC/DC unit and have several of them in multiple in- and outputs.

All active the suppy current of them in sum is very high and I'm wondering how to disable a current sense amplifier if this channel is not active. The input of it will stay at high level but common mode voltage low because the high side shunt stays available but no current.

Is it an issue to disconnect the supply voltage to save power? Is there another recommendation?

What is the issue with leaving them on? Is it the supply or does the input voltage go beyond absolute max ratings?

For saving power it is fine to disconnect power but we normally recommend not floating the supply as inputs are moving around some device are prone to latching up with floating supply.

Thanks. Yes, the issue is the 3.5mA supply current. For a low standby design using 12 of them, it's pretty much power loss in sum.

Hello DH,

So if you can place the supply to GND if possible. This is what is recommended especially if the inputs are moving.

Hello DH,

You should be fine if the input do not have large transients. If the input will have large transients I would look to make sure your transient signals do not cause any latch up. I have not seen issues with this device but I would recommend evaluating in your system with supply floating if you have fast transients a the input and you cannot GND the supply.
