TL072: Part oddly clips rail to rail

Hello,

I have recently received a circuit card populated with TL072C parts from my board supplier. The supplier purchased the parts from Digikey. Evaluation of the part shows that it clips rail to rail 9Vp-p (using a 9V power supply). Per the spec sheet and prior experience this part should clip at a lower p-p voltage eg 6 to 6.5V (p-p) with a 9V supply. I do not understand this and am concerned the part is not a TI TL072C device. Can you assist?

Under : "Documents & Media" there are PCN information links. Mult Dev 27/Jul/2023 This describes a design and wafer process change. The design change improves the output swing.

You have a after PCN change device.

Hi Ron,

The full part number is TL072CDR. The data sheet on the referenced Digi-key link says:Are you saying the part now has increased voltage swing? I could not glean this from the process change sheet you provided. The other factor I have observed comparing this part to and earlier part (with the lower voltage swing), is increased white noise. Is this a possibility as well with the new process change?

What you have sounds like the TL072H. It is a CMOS device, so it has rail-to-rail outputs, with higher noise. (The datasheet specifies this separately for the TL072H variant.)

The part is behaving like an H part, not a C part. How is the H part marked? I have my PCB fab house "on-hold" until I get to the root cause of this. Are H parts provided to Digikey with C markings?

Hi Robbie,

As a result from the process PCN, the TL07x datasheet was updated per this PCN also listed in Digikey's website: Datasheet PCN

As Ron has mentioned before, the difference in behavior is due to the new process and design change for the TL072CDR. The new design was based on the TL072H version and will see some similarities but the device is expected to perform to datasheet specifications. This is not an error in marking. If you have TI reel label, you can confirm the device and manufacturing origin to determine this.
