AMC1351-Q1: Input Filter Design Question

Part Number: AMC1351-Q1

Tool/software:

Section 8.2.2.1 (snippet below) talks about the design requirements for the input filter to the isolator.

  1. Is this saying to design the input filter such that the cutoff frequency is >2MHz?
  2. Does the input capacitance of the isolator need to be considered when designing the input filter?

Thank you for any information you can provide!

Regards,

-Josh

  • Hi Josh,

    Thank you for your questions.

    1. This is the saying the cutoff frequency should be <2MHz.

    2. No, the input capacitance should not be significant when designing your input filter.

Please let me know if you have any more questions!

    Best regards,

    Eva

  • Eva, thank you for your response, this is good news for our application.

Not sure if this is too in the weeds, but maybe it's worth noting for future rev's of the datasheet that the first paragraph states: "the impedance of the resistor divider is so high that adding a filter capacitor on the IN pin limits the signal bandwidth to an unacceptable low limit", then the bullet point below specifies an "at least" value for the filter cutoff. To me, all of that is implying a lower limit on the cutoff frequency and not an upper limit.

  • Hi Josh,

Glad I could help! Thank you for the feedback.

    Best regards,

    Eva
