PGA280: I want to use this part for it's SPI expansion ONLY

Part Number: PGA280

Tool/software:

Hi folks! I would like to use this part for it's GPIO/SPI CS expansion only and not use any of the inst amp side of the chip. It's easier and faster than implementing a small micro... Can you confirm if this implementation is correct for what I need? Thanks so much in advance!

  • Hey Cassie,

You've implemented the suggested decoupling for the DVDD and VSP. I recommend connecting VSOP to 5V and implementing a similar RC filter.

Might be able to simplify the circuit even further by DNPing the RC of VSP (R33 and C48) along with the RC of VSOP and only turning on the digital supply as is suggested in this portion of the datasheet:

The datasheet doesn't go into detail of what can be expected in this configuration - so if you decide to repopulate the resistors the full device will be turned on.

The value of the bypass capacitor for DVDD may need to be increased, I would implement a bigger footprint to have more choice (0603).

Besides the SPI information available on the datasheet, I also recommend leveraging the following resource:

    PGA280 Communication via SPI

    All the best,
    Carolina

  • Thank you so much for your time! I am indeed interested in simplifying the circuit as much as possible so I will give it a shot DNPing VSOP and also VSP. I appreciate the help and the note about the DVDD bypass cap.
