Hi expert,

My customer want to use a Current-Sense Amplifier to trigger 3.0A current with a 0.2mΩ shunt resistor, and they thought the gain is not enough. Do we have more suitable devices?

    Hey Ryker,

    With the INA186A5 (500V/V) this would create a change in VOUT of 300 mV. This is not bad, but you would want some low pass filtering at PIT pin to reduce noise and improve SNR.

    Another option is the INA212 which has the highest voltage gain at 1000V/V and bandwidth of 4 kHz.

    In order to get the best accuracy I would supply REF pins with some voltage >100mV) to keep VOUT in linear region when load is off. Doing this can make it easier to detect this change in current (0 to 3A). It also provides ability to perform an offset calibration which may be necessary given the large gain and small shunt resistances being measured. 

    If they need the output to reach a certain level to trigger some downstream comparator or interrupt, then they would simply add another amplifier gain stage (op amp) with gain around 10.  This op amp should have low noise.
