THS4211: Amp getting warm with no load

Part Number: THS4211

Tool/software:

I am currently testing the THS4211 in the attached circuit with no load and powered by +/- 7V.  Initially, another amp on the board was getting very hot and so I used a thermal camera to check out the board in its entirety.  I noticed that the THS4211 devices on my board are also getting quite warm (~42 degC), though not as warm as the other amp (it was unstable).  I fixed the instability problem, but wanted to know if it is expected that the THS4211 will get this warm without any load?  I may be troubleshooting something that isn't broken.....

  • Hi,

The device in stand-by will still warm up as it is still dissipating quiescent power. In this supply range and assuming room temperature conditions, we could expect the device to heat up to around ~45C to ~50C as it is still consuming 19mA of quiescent current. Are you noticing any signs of instability in this circuit or is it behaving as expected? If normal, then the temperature rise in stand-by should be in this range.

    Best Regards,

    Ignacio

  • Yes the circuit is behaving as expected and not oscillating--thank you for your input!
