AMC1302: ref design for 240VAC input power detector

Part Number: AMC1302
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO1212, , AMC130M02, AMC1300, AMC3301, AMC1350, AMC3330, TIDA-010960

Tool/software:

Hi Team,

My customer would like to design a 240VAC input power detector. Max power is 1.8KW.

Could you please advise whether ISO1212 is recommended for AC voltage sensing, AMC1302 is recommended for AC current sensing?

Do we have similar ref design? Thanks!

Best regards,

Terry

  • Hi Terry,

Does the customer need to measure voltage and current, or simply understand if voltage and current is present?

What degree of accuracy does the customer require?

  • Hi Alexander,

The product customer want to make is smart plug with energy monitoring (watt meter). One way is measuring AC voltage and current, then calculate the watt.

Customer didn't indicate the accuracy requirement. A rough measurement should be fine. Do we have recommended solution based on this requirement?

    Best,

    Terry

  • Hi Terry,

I would suggest the AMC130M02 to begin with. This device features integrated DC/DC converter and two input channels to measure both voltage and current with SPI output. This offers an integrated and easy to work with solution.

If analog output is preferred then AMC3301 and AMC3330 could be used. We also have similar devices without integrated DC/DC converter if the customer prefers to derive their own or if a bias is already available referred to the same node. AMC1300 and AMC1350.

We also have devices with a modulator bitstream output, which allows for the highest levels of flexibility when analyzing the data. A controller with a sigma-delta filter module (SDFM) is required to filter the modulator bitstream.

  • Thank you Alex!

AMC130M02 looks good for this application and I promoted the reference which is using AMC130M02/TIDA-010960 to customer as well.

    Best regards,

    Terry
