AMC1300: AMC1300B for current sense

Part Number: AMC1300
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMC1400, AMC3301-Q1, AMC3301,

Tool/software:

Hello,

We need Isolated current sense amplifier for current sense of  3 phase current of our motor. Our Motor is rated at 250W synchronous motor. Could you please suggest which AMC series IC will have low error or high performance in noisy environment. We need précised current measurement. We are confused which one to go with AMC1300B or AMC3301-Q1 or AMC1400?

  • Hi Kundan,

What error/performance are you looking for?  Can you provide some details into the application?

The 3 devices you've listed above work well for current sensing and there are some differences between them.

The AMC1400 is a wider package device compared to the AMC1300B and AMC3301.  The wider package provides higher creepage and clearance for higher isolation spec ratings.

The AMC3301 has an integrated DCDC to provide power for the high side.  The AMC1300B and AMC1400 do not have the integrated DCDC and will require the high side to be powered through some other source.

    Thanks.

  • Our expectation is that the total error in current measurement should be max 2% and we need to measure current from 100mA to 2.5A

  • Hi Kundan,

Does this 2% error need to be across the 100mA to 2.5A range (i.e. <2mA measurement error)?  Also, how much power is your system allowed to dissipate through the shunt?

For choosing between an AMC1300 vs AMC1400:  What isolation ratings are needed?

For choosing between an AMC1300 vs AMC3301:  How is high side power going to be supplied?

Also, you can take a look at the following for error calculations with our devices:

    SBAR013

    SBAR020

    Thanks,
