INA790B: Parallel Use of INA790B and Alternative Solutions for 140A Peak Current Sensing

Tool/software:

Hi,

We are currently evaluating INA790B for a current sensing application with the following conditions:

■ Application Requirements

  • Continuous current: 35A

  • Peak current: 140A (short duration)

  • Signal bandwidth: 1MHz

We would appreciate your feedback on the following:

  1. Is it possible to connect multiple INA790B devices in parallel to extend the measurable current range beyond the ±75A limit?
For example, splitting the current across multiple shunt paths and processing the outputs separately or combining them in the system.

  2. If INA790B is not suitable for this configuration, could you suggest any alternative TI solutions for high-current measurement (e.g., 140A peak) using external shunt resistors?
We are particularly interested in devices with similar PWM rejection performance and bandwidth. Possible candidates include INA240, INA281, etc.

Best regards,

Conor
