OPA4991-Q1: Short circuit current duration

Part Number: OPA4991-Q1

Tool/software:

The datasheet for OPAx991-Q1 lists the short circuit current (Isc) as ±75mA. Does anyone know if running up to that current will degrade or damage the IC? And a step further, Can the device run long term at anything approaching its Isc, or is that a short time frame maximum value?

  • Hi John,

This really comes down to if the devices temperature goes beyond the abs max. The device is rated for continuous short circuit current with one amplifier per package. Exceeding the abs max temperature can cause permanent damage. See note 2 below.
