TRF0208-SP: TRF0208-SP's OIP3

Part Number: TRF0208-SP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TRF0208SP-EVM

Hi,

I plan to use the TRF0208-SP in my design. While reviewing the IP3, the datasheet states the following: OIP3 = 34 dBm at 0.5 GHz, OIP3 = 36 dBm at 2 GHz, and OIP3 = 34 dBm at 4 GHz. Given that the P1dB is 11 dBm at 0.5 GHz and 14.5 dBm at 2 GHz, I am curious about the basis for how such high OIP3 values were achieved.

  • Hi there,

The OIP3 specified in the datasheet here is a "medium signal" measurement. As is the industry standard for OIP3 measurement, we measure the IMD3 tones at a lower fundamental output power, then we "extrapolate" to obtain the OIP3. We don't directly measure the OIP3. As to the reason how we are able to achieve such high OIP3 as compared to the P1dB, I'm afraid I can't speak on the exact methods used inside the part. I encourage you to order the TRF0208SP-EVM and evaluate for yourself, as depending on the exact output power you plan to operate at, we observe a slight peaking on the third order linearity at higher output powers closer to the P1dB.

Thanks and let me know if anything else comes up,
    Gideon
