INA301-Q1: ALERT Pin Functionality

Part Number: INA301-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INA301

I am using the INA301Q1 in one of my E-Fuse applications but the thing is I want the INA301 to control the load lines autonoumously without the use of an MCU using the ALERT pin. However I have learnt that the ALERT pin toggles under an overcurrent event which cannot be considered as true turn OFF of the loads. I want to know how the ALERT pin can be used for my application and also if the ALERT pin does toggle I want to know at what frequency it toggles.

  • Hello,

    Thank you for your post.

You are correct that you will need to implement external circuitry to presumably turn off the FET to protect your downstream circuitry similar to these app note for comparators:

With comparators, typically there is not a frequency at which it toggles as much as response time or propagation delay. This propagation delay heavily depends on the overdrive voltage with respect to the threshold voltage. With higher overdrive, the response time reduces.

I am providing you with the relevant specs for the INA301 that I would use for your design:

    I hope this helps,

    Joe
