OPA355 - Recommended Rs?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA355

The OPA355 datasheet has a of recommended Rs versus Cload.  In my ignorance I do not understand the implications of this chart.   I was hoping someone here could provide some insight.

The chart shows a smaller value of resistance for an increasing capacitance.

1. Is this chart meant to show the minimum resistance for stability?  Or will stability suffer with any deviation from the Rs shown?  Or is stability not at issue?

2.    Why doesn't the Rs increase with Cload?

  • Hi Paul,

The chart is the optimum value of output resistance for a given capacitive load. It is based on stability.  You can use larger values of resistance with no concerns other than reduced gain and reduced bandwdith.  If you use smaller values of resistance there will be stability issues.

The Rs vs Cload curve is unique to each op amp.  Some amplifiers will have a range of capacitive values where the Rs increases for increasing Cload.
