TLV3492 Max Supply Voltage

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV3492

Dear All,

The datasheet of the TLV3492 specifies identical absolute max. supply voltage and upper limit for the operating supply voltage (5.5 V). Usually there is a certain margin for protection purposes and I was wondering, if there is an error in the datasheet or are the specs correct. If the latter is the case, which would be the recommended supply voltage?

Thanks and regards,

Silviu

  • Hi Silviu,

The TLV3492 is one of the products where the maximum specified operating voltage, and the absolute maximum supply voltage, are the same in the data sheet. This is not an error, but the way the product development team decided to specify them at that time. The IC's CMOS process has some margin built in and the device doesn't breakdown if small, momentary voltage excursions exceed the absolute maximum voltage. However, it is best to keep the supply level such that it doesn't exceed the absolute maximum rating. TI doesn't make any assurances about the product's performance, or reliability, if it is exceeded.
