XTR300 sinking current source

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: XTR300, TIPD155, DAC8562, XTR110

Dear Sir,

it is said XTR300 can work as +/-20mA current source, i can't find reference schematic for sinking current source from data sheet. Can you pls supply one for me?

thanks in advance.

regards

Hawk Tong

  • Hello Hawk,

Please take a look at TIPD155:

It is a reference design that showcases the DAC8562 and two XTR300s for a dual-channel analog output module that can source and sink voltage and current.

Please let us know if you have any questions about this design.

  • Collin,

    many thanks, I note it.
since my customer prefer more output current, up to +/-60mA. what do you think to use two or more paralleling XTR300 to achieve more output capability ?

    regards

  • Hi Hawk,

The minimum short circuit current of the XTR300 device is 24.5mA, therefore to ensure +/-60mA three XTR300 devices would be required.

That said, we've never tried to parallel multiple XTR300 devices but have some concerns on how robust of a design it will be because these devices weren't designed for this type of operation.

Another solution would be to use a circuit similar to the one shown in the XTR110 datasheet which I've copied below:

  • Hi Hawk,

I forgot to ask in the previous message, what is the end application that requires the +/-60mA output?
