OPA2314 RRIO opamp as comparator

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OPA314

Do you recommend /not recommend using a RRIO opamp such as 'OPA2314AIDGKR' in open loop , such as use in comparator application?  I will add some slight hysteresis as well.

My comparator response requirements are very minimal, so I'm okay with whatever performance I achieve; I was hoping to use a dual/quad package and use the spare opamp for comparator.

  • David,

You may use OPA314 as comparator but be aware that there is a relatively large change in the input voltage offset across the input common-mode voltage of Vcm=~ (V+)-1.3 where N-channel differential pair takes over from P-channel or vice versa.  This is reflected in much lower typical CMRR spec 80dB vs 96dB depending whether the input common-mode voltage range is rail-to-rail or not, respectively.  Also, if either of the input terminals is driven more than 0.5V beyond its power supply rail, thus forward biasing ESD protection diodes, the input current must be limited to 10mA or less.
