[DRV425] [TIPD205] What is the resolution of DRV425 based TIPD205 Current Sensor design? Would it be able to detect a change of 50mA?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV425

I want to sense the current through a line which can vary from -20A to 150A. Can this sensor detect changes of  ~50mA in the current?

  • Hi Amitabh,

I will ask the apps engineer of this device to review this question. He is out on training today, please expect response delay.

  • Hi Amitabh,

The linearity of the DRV425 is specified at 0.1% which is lower than the resolution you are needing. You would need to calibrate each setup to achieve this. Also you would need to worry about noise from the system. Is there a specific frequency that you need? How much averaging can you take.

Another concern when making higher resolution measurements are errors due to external magnetic fields. The dual DRV425 improves magnetic field stray field rejection but at this resolution you will need to shield external magnetic fields away from the magnetic field due to the current you are measuring.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

    Regards,
    Javier
