LM358: Asking for the LM358DR as comparator question

Part Number: LM358

Hi Team,
customer would like to use LM358 to do the comparator.

The output pin is only 2.12V while the input and VDD are 3.3V.

Could you comment for this experiment? Why only 2.12V on pin7?

Here are the schematic and the scope measurement for pin7 voltage.

Thansk,
SHH

  • Hello SHH,

It looks like the output stage transistors are what is causing the limitation to the output voltage. The output voltage swing is limited by the drop across the two transistors. It is approximately 1.4V at 1mA, but could be lower at a few uA. Setting VCC to a higher voltage, like 5V, will get you a 3.3V output. Please let me know if you require any more assistance!
