LMV772-Q1: Disabling one of the channels in dual channel device

Part Number: LMV772-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMV772

Hello,

I am using a dual channel LMV772. Presently I need only one channel for my application. What is the method to diable the other Op-Amp in the device? Is it better to ground it or leave it floating.

Is there any app note or document which can explain the design.

Thanks,

Nikhil

  • Hi Nikhil,

the surplus op amp should not float. It can introduce unpredictable behavior.
Grounding the non-inverting input should be fine for a dual supply but I guess you're using the LMV772 with a single supply. Grounding the input having a single supply may cause the output to swing past its supplies and saturate. Thus, I would use the surplus op amp in a buffer configuration and e.g. Vcc/2 at the non-inverting input to not let the output saturate. This way you don't have to use additional parts and you ensure that the op amp is not floating.

    Hope this helps.

    Best,
    Miriam
